Los Angeles Cosplay Contest at Nagoya Day

Los Angeles Cosplay Contest Rules

  1. The Los Angeles Cosplay Contest is open to all genres of cosplay, with the exception of hentai and other inappropriate costumes that may violate the rules of The Grove and local City ordinances.
  2. Contestants can enter as an individual or a group. However, a prize for each member of the group cannot be guaranteed. For example, first prize is a roundtrip All Nippon Airways (ANA) airline ticket from Los Angeles to Tokyo. If a group wins first prize, only one ticket will be provided. A ticket to each member of the group will not be provided.
  3. Contestants aged 13 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  4. Each contestant may only enter one costume into the competition.
  5. Nudity or simulated nudity is not allowed. The basic rule of thumb is not to wear anything more revealing than what you would wear to the public pool or beach. The groin, buttocks and breasts must be covered by costumes with non-perforated, opaque material and the costume should not require constant pulling, straightening, etc. to keep your body parts covered. Inappropriate or sexual behavior, activity or contact and hentai will not be allowed. If you are worried about whether your costume complies with these rules, please e-mail a photo of the costume in advance.
  6. Contestants must have some form of footwear. Shoes, sandals or boots are required. Socks only are not allowed. There must be an entire sole on the bottom of your feet. If your character does not wear shoes, please do so anyways and judges will forgive the lack of accuracy. In such a case contestants may wish to consider flesh-tones or clear footwear.
  7. Profanity or political, racial, religious, or insulting statements, messages on signs or clothing, or demonstrations of any kind are not allowed.
  8. Live animals, skits, violence, projectiles of any kind, and strung bows are not allowed. Bladed weapons must be cased or sheathed at all times. Pointing weapons or objects at others is strictly prohibited. Nothing must leave your person while you are on stage and any weapon used in an offensive manner will be confiscated. All weapons must be non-working and peace bonded and must be checked in upon registration at the venue on the day of the event.
  9. Costumes which have power requirements must be self-contained. Access to electrical outlets will not be allowed.
  10. Pyrotechnics, fireworks, flashpots, explosive devices, fire, flame, flash powder, smoke, fog, dry ice, wind machines, lasers, pressurized gases or liquids, or similar special effects, and substances which might damage or soil, are not to be used.
  11. Wings, large, elaborate costumes or props must be handled by the contestant. Los Angeles Cosplay Contest will not be able to provide assistants. You will need to be able to walk up a few steps to a low stage safely by yourself. We ask that you be safe and aware while on stage. You will be responsible for all damage to the stage, lighting, technical aspects or any venue property.
  12. Contestants must make sure that everything they bring on stage comes back off with them. Do not spread confetti, glitter, liquid, messy substances, or anything that cannot be picked up easily at the end of your time on stage. If it takes longer than 30 seconds for you to get off the stage, you could lose points with the judges.
  13. Your costume must be finished before you get to the contest. No sewing, gluing, spray painting, welding, or other construction work is allowed at the venue. However, final assembly of large pieces and/or props and unexpected repairs are allowed.
  14. Contestants must enter or exit the stage only at the designated points. Acrobatics or jumping off the stage are not allowed.
  15. Contestants will be required to sign a release for use of video and photo images.
  16. Members of the audience will be asked to be courteous and respectful. Audience members are not allowed to go on stage for any reason.
  17. This is a family friendly event. If your costume or actions are deemed to be inappropriate or offensive, or if you do not follow the rules above, management will ask you to correct the issue or issues. If this cannot be corrected to management's sole discretion, or if you present any form of danger to others, the facilities or yourself, you will be disqualified from the contest and will be asked to leave the contest. If you are in a group and one contestant is removed from the contest, the entire group may be disqualified.
  18. Los Angeles Cosplay Contest reserves the right at its sole discretion to change its rules and regulations at any time, with or without notice to any contestant.
